Where it came from
Released in 2016 as part of the Lego City Great Vehicles subtheme, the 60118 Garbage Truck was designed to replicate the everyday utility vehicles seen in urban environments. This specific set was developed to appeal to younger builders interested in city infrastructure, focusing on the mechanical function of the lifting arm and the bin tipping mechanism to enhance interactive play. It reflects the broader design philosophy of the City line, which emphasizes realistic proportions and role-play elements over complex structural engineering.
The set was illustrated and engineered to be accessible for children aged five to twelve, featuring two minifigures and various accessory pieces like a broom, shovel, and banana peel. Upon its release, it was well received by the enthusiast community as a functional, mid-sized addition to the City theme, valued particularly for its play features. It remains a representative example of the Great Vehicles line, which sought to bring niche service vehicles into the standard Lego catalog.
