Where it came from
The Grand Prix Truck set, released in 2013 as part of the LEGO City Great Vehicles subtheme, was designed to bring the excitement of professional racing logistics to the standard city landscape. The set features a heavy-duty transport truck with a detachable trailer, designed to haul a Formula 1-style race car, reflecting a broader trend at the time for LEGO to focus on niche professional vehicles that allow children to simulate transport and pit-crew operations.
The design emphasizes playability, featuring fold-down ramps and a functional trailer mechanism, hallmarks of the City line’s focus on mechanical interactivity. It was well-received upon release for providing a complete, cohesive play experience within a smaller price point, serving as a staple of the 2013 lineup that prioritized realistic, real-world utility vehicles over the more fantastical themes present in other contemporary LEGO series.
