Where it came from
Released in 2015 as part of the LEGO Friends theme, Heartlake City Airport (41109-1) was designed to expand the play environment beyond the established residential and commercial locales of the fictional Heartlake City. The set was created to appeal to children interested in aviation and travel, featuring a modern terminal building, a control tower, and a stylized passenger jet designed with the vibrant color palette characteristic of the Friends aesthetic.
The design process for the Friends line often prioritizes playability and modularity, and this set included functional elements like a revolving luggage carousel, a boarding gate, and a detailed cockpit to facilitate roleplay scenarios. Upon its release, it was well-received by the target demographic for its inclusion of unique mini-doll figures and its integration with other sets in the Heartlake City series, reflecting the broader strategy of building a cohesive, expansive urban world for imaginative play.
