Where it came from
Released in 2018 as part of the LEGO Ninjago Sons of Garmadon wave, the Heavy Metal set features the villainous character Heavy Metal, a member of the biker gang known as the Sons of Garmadon. This set was designed to reflect the gritty, post-apocalyptic aesthetic introduced in the eighth season of the Ninjago television series, where the narrative shifted toward a more mature, road-warrior-inspired visual language.
The character design centers on the distinctive Vengestone Chain Rifle, a specialized accessory introduced to represent the threat posed by the antagonists. The set was received as a functional addition to the Ninjago line, providing collectors and fans with an essential antagonist minifigure and a buildable vehicle, consistent with the high-octane vehicle-based play patterns that have defined the Ninjago theme for over a decade.
