Where it came from
Released in 2019 as part of the LEGO Ninjago 'Secrets of the Forbidden Spinjitzu' line, the Katana 4x4 was designed to reflect the adventurous, high-tech aesthetic of the Ninjago television series. It represents the ongoing evolution of the theme's vehicle designs, prioritizing play features like the wheel-slicing function and the ability to switch between drive and attack modes, which was a core mechanic introduced for this wave of sets.
The set was developed by the LEGO design team to provide a substantial build experience that could withstand active play while maintaining the distinct visual identity of the series. Its reception among builders was generally positive, with fans of the theme praising the inclusion of several key minifigures and the functional mechanical elements that allowed the vehicle to interact dynamically with other sets in the Forbidden Spinjitzu collection.
