Where it came from
The LEGO Friends Hedgehog Storage set, numbered 40171, was released as part of the LEGO seasonal and promotional line. Designed to complement the broader Friends theme, it features a buildable base that doubles as a storage container for small trinkets or stationery. This set reflects the brand's mid-2010s initiative to integrate functional desk accessories with the aesthetic of their core play themes, targeting younger builders who enjoyed personalizing their workspace.
The design draws on the vibrant, pastel-heavy visual identity established for the LEGO Friends franchise since its 2012 debut. By incorporating a buildable hedgehog character, the set balances decorative charm with utility. Upon its release, it was well-received by fans of the theme for its dual-purpose nature, providing a practical storage solution that maintained the modular, creative spirit synonymous with the LEGO system.
