Where it came from
The HH-87 Starhopper was released in 2013 as part of the LEGO Star Wars theme, coinciding with the fifth season of the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The vehicle was designed to capture the distinct aesthetic of the Zygerrian slave empire's primary starfighter, featuring a unique, somewhat unconventional shape that diverged from the more common Rebel or Imperial starship designs found elsewhere in the product line.
The set includes three minifigures—Obi-Wan Kenobi, Cad Bane, and a Zygerrian slaver—which provide context for the specific narrative arc involving the infiltration of the Zygerrian capital. The design team focused on replicating the Starhopper’s signature dual-wing structure and cockpit layout, aiming to provide a functional build that utilized flick-fire missiles to mimic the ship's weapon systems as seen on screen.
