Where it came from
Kai’s Dragon, identified as set 891613-1, was released in 2016 as a promotional polybag item. It emerged during the height of the LEGO Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu era, a period defined by the franchise's successful blend of elemental fantasy and martial arts-inspired building sets. This small-scale model was designed as an accessible, entry-level build, providing fans with a compact representation of the iconic fire dragon associated with the character Kai.
The design prioritizes portability and efficient part usage, utilizing a modest brick count to capture the silhouette of a serpentine dragon. The set was distributed primarily through magazines and promotional events, reflecting the strategy of utilizing smaller polybags to maintain engagement with the broader Ninjago product line between larger retail waves. It remains a notable piece for collectors focusing on character-specific vehicle and creature iterations from the Ninjago theme.
