Where it came from
This minifigure of Cole was released in 2011 as part of the initial launch of the LEGO Ninjago theme, designated by set number 891611-1. It was distributed as a promotional foil-pack item, introducing the character of the Earth Ninja to early fans of the franchise. The design captures the original aesthetic of the Ninjago line, featuring the distinct 'ZX' style ninja hood and a torso print reflective of the series' debut season, focused on the elemental mastery of earth.
The character design was created by the LEGO Group's design team to establish the core visual identity of the Masters of Spinjitzu. As one of the original four ninja, Cole was intended to embody strength and grounded reliability, a personality trait translated into the minifigure's color palette and printing. Upon release, this version of the character became a cornerstone for early collectors and helped cement the long-term popularity of the Ninjago narrative as it transitioned from a simple toy line into a globally recognized media franchise.
