Where it came from
Released in 1955, the LEGO Large House set 15-2 represents one of the earliest examples of the company's transition from wooden toys to the interlocking plastic brick system. Developed during the formative years of the System of Play, this set was designed to demonstrate the versatility of the bricks in architectural model-building, a core philosophy that would come to define the brand's global expansion throughout the mid-twentieth century.
The design of the 15-2 reflects the aesthetic sensibilities of post-war European domestic architecture, utilizing simple geometries and a modest color palette to appeal to young builders. While the set lacks the specialized components of modern kits, it was well-received at the time for its open-ended nature, encouraging children to experiment with structural stability and interior layout long before the standardization of more complex, theme-based construction sets.
