Where it came from
Lava Falls, set number 70753-1, was released by The LEGO Group in 2015 as part of the Ninjago theme's 'Tournament of Elements' sub-theme. This set was designed to capture a specific conflict within the Ninjago narrative, focusing on the character Cole as he competes to retrieve an elemental jade blade. The design prioritizes playability, incorporating a bridge structure that features a collapse mechanism to simulate the treacherous environment of the Tournament of Elements.
The set reflects the design language of the mid-2010s Ninjago line, which emphasized dynamic, action-oriented builds that integrated with the broader television series storyline. As a smaller, entry-level set, it served as an accessible point for fans to acquire the Cole and Chop'rai minifigures. It was well-regarded by collectors for its efficient use of parts to create a thematic diorama that successfully translated the high-stakes aesthetic of the show into a compact physical model.
