Where it came from
The Legends of Chima Playmat (850899-1) was released by The LEGO Group in 2013 as an accessory to support the launch of the Legends of Chima theme. Designed to provide a dedicated surface for play, the mat features artwork depicting the various elemental biomes of the fictional world of Chima, serving as a tactical landscape for children to stage battles between the animal-themed tribes of the series.
The design emphasizes the vibrant, high-fantasy aesthetic characteristic of the Chima product line, which was developed by LEGO to integrate a narrative-driven television show with building sets. While the mat was primarily intended as a functional play utility rather than a collectible art piece, it remains a notable example of the supplementary merchandise produced to foster world-building and immersive play during the peak of the Chima franchise.
