Where it came from
Released in May 2016, the LEGO DFB (Deutscher Fußball-Bund) Minifigure series was a special-edition collection produced exclusively for the German market. This set was created to celebrate the German national football team’s participation in the UEFA Euro 2016 tournament, featuring fifteen players and the team’s coach, Joachim Löw. The collaboration marked a unique intersection between the world’s most popular toy brand and the high-profile world of professional international football.
The figures were meticulously designed to mirror the actual team kits of the era, complete with authentic player names and jersey numbers printed on the backs of the torsos. The series was housed in standard blind bags, which led to a notable frenzy among collectors, as they sold out rapidly across Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. The series is widely regarded by collectors as a distinct cultural artifact, representing a brief but significant moment of partnership between LEGO and German sports heritage.
