Where it came from
Released in May 2016 as a specialized collaboration between LEGO and the German Football Association (DFB), this series was designed to celebrate the German national football team ahead of the UEFA Euro 2016 tournament. The collection consists of 15 players and their coach, Joachim Löw, each outfitted in the official team kit of the era. The release was strategically timed to capitalize on the team's status as reigning world champions, making it a distinct departure from the standard recurring LEGO Minifigures series themes.
The figures were designed to capture the likenesses of iconic players like Manuel Neuer, Mesut Özil, and Thomas Müller, featuring unique torso prints to replicate the official kits. While the reception among LEGO collectors was positive due to the high level of detail, the series remained an exclusive release for the German, Austrian, and Swiss markets, which added to its allure and difficulty for international collectors to acquire. The blind-bag format encouraged the hobby of 'feeling' for specific figures, a common practice among enthusiasts of the collectible minifigure line.
