Where it came from
The LEGO Minifigures Disney Series, released in 2016, marked the first time the company collaborated with Disney for a dedicated blind-bagged collection. Produced as part of the Collectible Minifigures (CMF) line, the set was designed to commemorate iconic characters from both classic Disney animation and Pixar films. By offering characters like Mickey Mouse, Stitch, and Buzz Lightyear in a standardized format, LEGO aimed to bridge the gap between their modular building system and the vast emotional appeal of the Disney intellectual property.
The design of these figures was praised for its intricate molding, particularly the unique headpieces and accessories that captured the specific aesthetic of characters like Captain Hook and Maleficent. Upon release, the set was met with significant enthusiasm from adult collectors and casual fans alike, becoming a benchmark for future licensing partnerships. The sealed display box, containing sixty individual blind bags, was primarily distributed to retail outlets and specialized hobby shops, representing a complete set of the eighteen unique figures available in this initial run.
