Where it came from
Released in May 2024, the LEGO Minifigures Series 26 collection (71046) marked a thematic shift toward space exploration and science fiction archetypes. This series was designed to celebrate the history of LEGO Space, featuring twelve distinct characters including an Alien Tourist, an Ice Planet Explorer, and a Blacktron Mutant. Each figure was crafted to pay homage to classic themes from the 1980s and 1990s while integrating modern molding techniques and complex accessory pairings.
The series was received positively by the collector community, particularly for its inclusion of updated versions of retired sub-themes like M-Tron and Ice Planet 2002. LEGO designers focused on nostalgia, utilizing new specialized pieces to modernize iconic color palettes and helmet designs. This collection is notable for its blind-box distribution, which transitioned away from foil bags, challenging collectors to identify the figures through external scanning methods or randomized acquisition.
