Where it came from
The Lion Cub's Savanna, set number 41048-1, was released in 2014 as part of the LEGO Friends 'Animal Series 3' subtheme. This series was designed to provide affordable, impulse-purchase polybags that captured the charm of the Friends line’s core aesthetic in a miniature, self-contained format. The set focuses on a small, buildable environment, specifically a patch of savanna grass and a tree, meant to accompany the central lion cub figure.
The design emphasizes the bright, saturated color palette characteristic of the Friends theme, utilizing specific floral and foliage elements to create a naturalistic yet stylized habitat. As a polybag set, it was intended for wide distribution at retail checkout counters and toy sections, serving as a gateway for younger collectors to engage with the Friends universe. It was received as a modest, functional addition to the broader theme, prized by collectors for its inclusion of the unique lion cub mold and the specific printed aesthetic of the Friends branding.
