LEGO Friends Advent Calendar

Released in 2013, the LEGO Friends Advent Calendar (set 41040) was part of the rapidly expanding LEGO Friends line, which introduced the 'mini-doll' figure format to the company's portfolio in 2012. This set was designed to capture the festive spirit by offering a daily build experience throughout December, focusing on the character-driven narrative of Heartlake City. It arrived at a time when LEGO was diversifying its offerings to reach a broader demographic, moving away from the traditional minifigure aesthetic toward a more stylized, detailed design language intended to appeal to younger builders interested in social play and dioramas.

The set includes 24 small builds intended to be opened sequentially, featuring accessories that reflect the hobbies and themes associated with the Friends characters. LEGO design teams focused on creating 'micro-builds' that felt substantial despite their small piece count, emphasizing seasonal tropes like holiday decor, cozy interior furniture, and winter-themed pets. Upon its release, the calendar was well-received by the target audience for its utility as both a holiday countdown and a source of unique, seasonal parts, cementing the Advent Calendar format as a perennial staple of the LEGO Friends product cycle.
