Where it came from
The LEGO Fridge Magnet Set 851014-1 was released around 2008 as part of an effort to offer functional household accessories featuring the brand's iconic minifigure designs. These sets were marketed as a playful way for fans to integrate the building system into their daily lives, specifically designed to secure notes or photos on magnetic surfaces like refrigerators. The concept leaned heavily on the appeal of the minifigure as a standalone character, focusing on the visual identity of the brand rather than the traditional construction aspect of the product line.
The design of these magnets typically involved non-removable minifigures affixed to a plastic brick base, which contained a small magnet on the reverse side. This specific assembly was intended to ensure durability for everyday use while maintaining the classic aesthetic of the minifigure. While these items were popular additions to the brand's merchandise catalog at the time, they were eventually phased out as the company shifted toward different types of decorative magnets and accessories that allowed for more modularity and customization.
