Where it came from
Mia’s Bedroom, set 3939-1, was released in 2012 as part of the initial wave of the Lego Friends theme. The line was developed after four years of research and focus groups, representing a strategic shift for the company to better capture the girls' toy market. The set design emphasizes a relatable, suburban aesthetic, incorporating a pet rabbit and various accessories that reflect the character Mia’s stated interests in animals and nature.
The Friends theme introduced the 'mini-doll' figure, which differs from the traditional blocky minifigure by featuring more realistic proportions and detailed facial features. While the launch of the theme sparked some debate among longtime Lego fans regarding the departure from the classic aesthetic, the line was a significant commercial success. It helped establish the Friends series as a pillar of the brand, characterized by modular play and a color palette distinct from the primary colors found in City or Star Wars sets.
