Where it came from
Released in 2012 as part of the inaugural wave of the Lego Friends theme, this set was designed to introduce the core cast of characters in a lifestyle-oriented setting. The set was created to appeal to a demographic that preferred character-driven play, featuring the figure of Mia in a small, accessible build centered on a beach theme.
The aesthetic of the set reflects the transition of Lego's color palette and character design that defined the Friends line. By utilizing the mini-doll figure rather than the traditional minifigure, the design team aimed to facilitate more expressive roleplay. Upon its release, the set was received as a functional entry point for the new theme, successfully establishing the visual identity of Heartlake City.
