Where it came from
Released in 2012, Mia's Skateboard (30101-1) was part of the inaugural wave of the Lego Friends theme. This collection was developed by the Lego Group to introduce a new character-driven play experience aimed at a demographic that had been historically underserved by the brand's offerings at the time. The set focuses on Mia, one of the five core characters of Heartlake City, emphasizing her active personality and interest in outdoor sports.
The design of the set reflects the aesthetic transition Lego made for the Friends line, utilizing the smaller, stylized mini-doll figures rather than the traditional minifigure. The set features a compact build consisting of a simple skateboard, a ramp, and a small accessories rack, designed to be a quick, affordable entry point for collectors. Upon its release, the theme generated significant public discussion regarding its departure from traditional design conventions, though it ultimately became a foundational pillar of the company's modern product catalog.
