Where it came from
Released in 2018 as part of the LEGO City Great Vehicles subtheme, the Monster Truck set 60180-1 was designed to capture the high-energy aesthetic of off-road stadium racing. The set is built around a robust chassis featuring oversized tires and working suspension, elements intended to allow for tactile play and simulate the performance of real-world monster trucks. It was designed to provide an entry-level building experience that emphasizes functionality and movement.
The reception of this set was largely positive among the target demographic of younger builders and collectors of the City line, who appreciated the inclusion of a flame-adorned minifigure driver and the functional suspension system. It stands as a representative example of the Great Vehicles line, which focuses on depicting common transportation and recreational vehicles with a balance of durability and aesthetic detail, maintaining the consistent design language of the modern LEGO City era.
