Where it came from
The Nursey set, released under the Duplo theme in the late 1980s, was designed to provide toddlers with a foundational building experience focused on nurturing and domestic play. As part of the broader Duplo line, which utilizes bricks twice the size of standard Lego elements to ensure safety for smaller hands, this set aimed to introduce children to structured roleplay through simple, identifiable character figures and nursery-themed accessories.
The design aesthetic prioritized bright primary colors and rounded, soft-edged plastic components that were characteristic of the era's educational toy market. While the specific designer remains uncredited in keeping with the company’s internal development practices of the time, the set was well-received by parents and educators as a durable, intuitive tool for developing fine motor skills and social-emotional learning through imaginative play.
