Where it came from
The LEGO Nutcracker, set 4002017, was produced as an exclusive gift for employees of the LEGO Group in 2017. As part of a long-standing tradition, the company distributes a special, limited-edition set to its staff each holiday season to celebrate their collective work over the preceding year. This specific model features a Technic-based internal gear mechanism that allows the figure's mouth to open and close, showcasing the technical engineering prowess that defines the product line.
The set was designed by LEGO designer Steinar Wasrud, who aimed to blend the classic, nostalgic aesthetic of a traditional wooden nutcracker with the complex modularity of the Technic system. The model is composed of over 600 pieces and is packaged in a unique decorative box featuring a festive design. Due to its status as an employee-exclusive gift, it has become a sought-after item for collectors interested in corporate artifacts and the intersection of traditional holiday iconography with industrial design.
