Where it came from
Released in 2017 as part of the Lego Duplo Town series, the Pets set was designed to introduce toddlers to the concepts of animal care and empathy. The set features a classic collection of figures, including a dog, a cat, a hamster, and a rabbit, paired with simple accessories such as a feeding bowl and a hairbrush. The design philosophy behind this set relies on the signature chunky, rounded aesthetic of the Duplo line, which ensures safety for children as young as two years old while providing tactile engagement for developing motor skills.
The reception of this set focused on its utility as a foundational educational tool. By encouraging children to act out nurturing scenarios, the set aligns with the broader Duplo goal of fostering imaginative play and social-emotional development. The choice of domestic pets as the subject matter reflects a long-standing emphasis within the Duplo brand on familiar, real-world environments that help young children make sense of their immediate surroundings through play.
