Where it came from
The Pirate's Fighter, released in 2016 as part of the Lego Ninjago 'Skybound' wave, was designed to anchor the narrative of the season featuring the djinn Nadakhan and his crew of sky pirates. The set represents a thematic departure from standard ninja aesthetics, leaning heavily into a steampunk-meets-pirate visual language that defined the series' sixth season. It was conceived to provide an antagonist vehicle that matched the flying, modular nature of the series' primary villain fleet.
The model was designed with a heavy emphasis on asymmetrical silhouette and utility, featuring flick-fire missiles and storage compartments typical of the mid-range playsets of that era. Upon release, it was well-received by fans of the Ninjago theme for its unique color palette and the inclusion of exclusive minifigures like Nadakhan. It remains a notable entry in the Skybound collection for its successful translation of cartoon-style flight mechanics into a cohesive, sturdy build.
