Where it came from
Released in 2016 as a promotional polybag set under the LEGO City theme, the Police Chase set (5004404) was distributed as a gift with purchase during specific retail promotions. These small-scale sets are designed to offer an accessible entry point into the City theme, focusing on the classic trope of law enforcement versus criminal pursuit. The design centers on a compact police cruiser and a small motorcycle, reflecting the simplified, durable aesthetic common to mid-2010s promotional polybags.
The set was conceived by the LEGO design team to serve as a versatile companion to larger LEGO City police station sets. By providing individual vehicles rather than complex structures, the design prioritizes playability and quick assembly. Upon its release, it was well-received by collectors who prioritize space-efficient builds and by families looking for affordable additions to their LEGO City layouts, serving as a functional, modular component of the broader municipal-themed product line.
