Where it came from
Released in January 2021, the Police Station 10278-1 was the sixteenth entry in the popular LEGO Modular Buildings series. Designed by Chris McVeigh, the set was intended to evoke the classic aesthetic of 1940s-era American architecture, incorporating a three-story building that features a police station, a donut shop, and a connected apartment. The design team focused on creating a cohesive streetscape that offered advanced building techniques and intricate storytelling elements, such as a hidden escape hatch and a secret donut smuggler's stash.
The set was widely praised by the adult fan of LEGO community for its dense level of detail and clever integration of disparate architectural styles. Critics highlighted the inclusion of the 'Donut Shop' as a playful contrast to the official business of the station, noting that it added personality and color to the otherwise austere facade. It remains a hallmark of the Icons collection for its balance of structural complexity and whimsical narrative depth, continuing the tradition of the long-running series.
