Where it came from
Scary Pirate Island, released as set 40597-1 in 2023, was designed as a promotional gift-with-purchase to complement the broader LEGO Creator 3-in-1 theme. It pays homage to the classic LEGO Pirates aesthetic of the late 1980s and early 1990s, capturing the nostalgic charm of compact, island-themed builds. The design centers on a small, rocky islet featuring a skull-shaped cave entrance, a palm tree, and a treasure chest, intended to serve as a micro-scale scene that appeals to both adult collectors and younger builders.
The set was developed by the LEGO design team to evoke the spirit of the iconic 'Pirate' subtheme while utilizing modern building techniques and parts. It was received favorably by the community, primarily for its high level of detail within a small piece count and its ability to act as a standalone display piece or an expansion for larger pirate-themed sets. The set reflects a broader company strategy of releasing thematic, limited-run promotional items that reward dedicated fans of specific historical LEGO series.
