Where it came from
The Skybound Plane, set number 30421-1, was released by the Lego Group in 2016 as part of the Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu theme. It was issued as a promotional polybag set to coincide with the 'Skybound' storyline, which featured the villainous Nadakhan and his crew of sky pirates. The design is intended to reflect the aesthetic of the Djinn’s airborne fleet, utilizing a color palette of metallic gold, azure, and dark red to capture the adventurous, high-fantasy tone of the season.
The model was designed as a compact, entry-level build, prioritizing playability and the inclusion of a pilot minifigure to represent the conflict between the ninja and the sky pirates. While it serves as a small-scale representation of the larger vehicle designs found in the primary retail sets of that year, it is noted by collectors for its efficient use of parts to achieve the distinct, jagged silhouette characteristic of the Skybound sub-theme. Upon its release, it was well-received by fans for its accessibility and ability to integrate easily into existing Ninjago displays.
