Where it came from
Released in 2018 as part of the LEGO Ninjago theme's 'Hunt' sub-theme, Stormbringer (set 70652-1) portrays the Lightning Dragon commanded by the character Jay Walker. This set was introduced alongside the ninth season of the Ninjago television series, titled 'Hunted', which focuses on the ninja heroes attempting to return to their home realm after being stranded in the Realm of Oni and Dragon.
The model was designed to feature functional play elements, including a 'lightning bolt' shooter mechanism and posable limbs, reflecting the aesthetic of the series where dragons serve as elemental guardians. It was received by fans as a notable update to the dragon designs in the theme, emphasizing complex articulation and a distinct color palette consistent with the Lightning ninja's equipment.
