Where it came from
The Golden Dragon, set 70666, was released in 2019 as part of the LEGO Ninjago Legacy subtheme. This line was designed to celebrate the history of the long-running Ninjago franchise by reimagining iconic sets from earlier seasons. The set is a direct homage to the original 2013 'The Golden Dragon' set, modernized with updated building techniques and piece color palettes to better reflect the evolution of the theme's aesthetic over the decade.
The design of this iteration focuses on articulation and playability, featuring posable wings, legs, and a tail, alongside a saddle for the Lloyd Garmadon minifigure. It was created to provide newer collectors access to one of the most recognizable vehicles from the Ninjago lore. Upon its release, it was well received by the community for successfully balancing nostalgic design cues with the improved structural integrity expected of contemporary LEGO construction sets.
