Where it came from
Released in 2019 as part of the LEGO Ninjago Legacy theme, this set serves as a modern reimagining of the original 2012 Earth Driller design. The Legacy line was created to honor iconic vehicles from the franchise's history, updating them with contemporary building techniques, improved articulation, and refined color palettes to align with the evolving aesthetic of the Ninjago series.
The set was designed to capture the heavy-duty, industrial aesthetic of Cole’s elemental vehicle, featuring a prominent rotating drill bit linked to a gear mechanism. Critics and fans noted its robust construction and playability, particularly praising the mechanical drill function that moves as the vehicle rolls. It stands as a testament to the enduring popularity of Ninjago's vehicle-centric play patterns over the show's decade-long run.
