Where it came from
The LEGO NINJAGO Movie Play & Display Case, released under set number 5005406, was produced in conjunction with the 2017 theatrical release of The LEGO NINJAGO Movie. Designed as a functional accessory for the theme's expansive range of collectible minifigures, the case features a themed plastic exterior with integrated baseplates, allowing fans to mount and arrange their figures securely. It was positioned by the manufacturer as a storage solution that bridged the gap between a display stand and a transportable carry case.
The design prioritizes portability and organization, reflecting a shift in LEGO's accessory line toward high-utility products for adult fans and younger builders alike. By incorporating the specific visual branding of the NINJAGO film, the case served as a promotional companion piece that aimed to capitalize on the aesthetic of the movie's architectural and character designs. Its reception was largely positive among collectors who sought a cohesive way to display modular sets and associated minifigures without the footprint of custom shelving.
