Where it came from
Released in 2022 to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the LEGO Group, this publication serves as the definitive authorized history of the company. It tracks the evolution from Ole Kirk Christiansen’s humble woodworking shop in Billund, Denmark, during the Great Depression to the global phenomenon that redefined modular construction toys. The book was developed in close collaboration with the LEGO Group to provide an exhaustive archive of the brand's creative journey.
The volume features a wealth of archival photography and design sketches, showcasing the transition from wooden toys to the iconic interlocking plastic brick system patented in 1958. It provides deep context for the philosophy behind the system, emphasizing the importance of 'play' in childhood development. Critics and collectors received it as a sophisticated piece of corporate history that balances technical industrial design milestones with the sentimental human stories of the family-owned enterprise.
