Where it came from
Released in 2017 as part of the LEGO Minecraft theme, The Nether Railway was designed to capture the dangerous, subterranean landscape of the game's Nether dimension. The set was created during a period when the LEGO Minecraft line was expanding from small, vignette-style sets into more complex, buildable playsets that featured iconic game mechanics like minecarts, track systems, and hostile mobs.
The set focuses on the interplay between the minecart rail system and the hazardous environment, featuring a buildable Pigman, a Magma Cube, and a small Ghast with a fireball-shooting mechanism. Designers prioritized the inclusion of interactive features, such as a lever-activated trapdoor, to mirror the gameplay experience of exploring Nether fortresses, and it was received by fans as a solid addition to the theme for its functional rail play and representative figures.
