Where it came from
Released in 2017 as part of the LEGO Minecraft theme, The Waterfall Base represents the collaborative effort between LEGO and Mojang to translate the sandbox aesthetics of the video game into physical building sets. This model captures the quintessential Minecraft structure: a multi-level base built into a landscape featuring a waterfall, a lava flow, and a functional cave system. The design centers on modularity, allowing builders to rearrange the base's sections to mimic the open-ended creativity inherent in the game.
The set features iconic mobs, including the Steve and Alex minifigures, alongside a sheep, a wolf, and a hostile enderman. Designed to appeal to fans of the game’s survival mode, it incorporates play features like a secret trapdoor and a buildable garden. Upon its release, it was noted for its success in recreating the blocky, pixelated visual language of Minecraft using standard LEGO bricks, effectively bridging the gap between digital play and traditional construction toys.
