Where it came from
Released in 2014 as part of the LEGO City Great Vehicles subtheme, the 60056 Tow Truck was designed to expand the playability of the city landscape by introducing common service vehicles. The set was created during a period when LEGO was focusing on realistic, functional models that allowed children to role-play everyday urban maintenance scenarios, moving away from more fantastical themes to ground the City line in relatable reality.
The design emphasizes a classic tow truck silhouette, featuring a functional hook-and-winch mechanism that remains a staple of the City theme's technical play features. It was received well by collectors and builders for its sturdy build and bright aesthetic, which effectively captured the look of a heavy-duty municipal vehicle. Its release solidified the importance of utility service sets within the wider City range, providing essential infrastructure for builders looking to populate their dioramas.
