Troll Warrior

Released in 2002 under the LEGO Knights' Kingdom line, the Troll Warrior, set 5618, was part of a series of small, budget-friendly promotional sets often referred to as 'polybags.' These sets were designed to serve as accessible entry points into the medieval fantasy theme, featuring a singular minifigure accompanied by a handful of accessories or a small buildable element. This specific character represents the 'Shadow Knights' or troll faction, characterized by their dark, aggressive aesthetic that contrasted with the more traditional castle builds of the era.

The design of the Troll Warrior reflects the experimental aesthetic shift LEGO pursued during the early 2000s, favoring molded armor pieces and distinct, jagged motifs over the classic brick-built armor. The minifigure captures a gritty, high-fantasy style common to the period's narrative-heavy sets, which emphasized character-driven play. While these small sets were primarily distributed at mass-market retailers as impulse buys, they remain a nostalgic touchstone for collectors of early 2000s LEGO themes.
