Where it came from
The Turtle Lair Invasion, set number 79117-1, was released in 2014 as part of the LEGO Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles theme. This set was produced to coincide with the era of the Nickelodeon animated television series, capturing the iconic subterranean headquarters of the Turtles. It was designed to offer high playability, featuring multiple interactive elements such as a collapsing wall, a laboratory, and a training area to recreate the defensive battles against the Foot Clan.
The set was conceived by the LEGO design team to translate the complex urban architecture of the lair into an accessible, modular building experience. By incorporating key characters like Leonardo, Raphael, Splinter, Darrel, and Shredder, the set aimed to provide a comprehensive playset that balanced structural stability with action-oriented features. Upon its release, it was well-received by fans of the franchise for its faithfulness to the animated show's aesthetic and its inclusion of essential minifigures.
