Where it came from
Released in 2019 as part of the LEGO Overwatch theme, the Watchpoint: Gibraltar set was designed to capture the pivotal payload delivery mission from Blizzard Entertainment’s team-based shooter. The set reflects the aesthetic of the game’s first map, focusing on the Overwatch rocket launch facility. LEGO designers worked to translate the game's stylized, vibrant art direction into a modular structure that featured a detachable rocket and a launch tower, aiming to provide both display value and play features for fans of the franchise.
The reception of the set was generally positive among builders who appreciated the inclusion of exclusive minifigures such as Pharah, Mercy, Reaper, and Winston. As one of the largest entries in the brief Overwatch line, it stood out for its attempt to replicate the scale of the in-game objective. While the theme was ultimately discontinued, the design remains a notable example of how LEGO adapted digital environments into brick-based play experiences during the height of the game's popularity.
