Where it came from
Released in 2019 as a tribute to the company’s humble beginnings, the LEGO Wooden Minifigure (853967) serves as a nod to the brand's origins as a Danish woodworking shop in the 1930s. Created to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the company, this limited-edition display piece is crafted from FSC-certified oak, standing five-to-one the size of a standard minifigure. It represents a significant departure from the brand's plastic-focused product line, positioning itself as a premium art object intended for customization and display.
The design was influenced by the aesthetic of early LEGO wooden toys, featuring movable plastic hands and a classic, minimalist silhouette. While the figure comes unfinished, allowing owners to paint or customize the wood, it was also designed to be fully compatible with existing plastic bricks, bridging the gap between traditional artisanal crafts and modern modular building. It received a warm reception from collectors and design enthusiasts who valued the item as an homage to the company’s evolution from carpentry to a global creative movement.
