Where it came from
The Worm & Earth set, designated 40038-1, was released in 2008 as part of a series of small, seasonal, or promotional buildable figures. These sets were designed to offer accessible, miniature models that utilized a limited number of elements to capture recognizable natural or whimsical subjects, often intended for younger builders or as small-scale desktop companions.
The design of this specific set focuses on minimalist representation, using a vibrant color palette to distinguish the worm from its segmented, earthy base. It reflects the broader design philosophy of that era, which prioritized clever geometry and simple articulation within a compact footprint, and it is remembered by enthusiasts for its humble aesthetic and the clever use of basic bricks to evoke character.
