Where it came from
The Hyperia City trading card set was produced during the mid-1990s as a stylized reimagining of classic animation icons within a futuristic, neon-drenched urban aesthetic. This specific character card, featuring Goofy, was conceptualized as a special rarity tier to highlight the contrast between the character's traditional slapstick persona and the series' gritty, cyber-noir design direction.
The illustrations for the set were commissioned to emphasize sharp lines and high-contrast color palettes, moving away from soft, traditional animation cels toward a bold, graphic novel sensibility. While the broader Hyperia City line garnered attention from collectors for its experimental visual departure, the Goofy card remains a notable example of the series' intent to juxtapose familiar, comforting archetypes against an imposing and unconventional environment.
