Where it came from
The Goofy character card from the Hyperia City series was released during the height of the mid-1990s trading card boom, a period defined by the convergence of traditional animation franchises and the collectible card game phenomenon. This series was designed to reimagine classic cartoon characters within a stylized, futuristic urban landscape, blending retro charm with the neon-drenched aesthetic of nineties graphic design.
The illustrations for this series were commissioned by a small studio specializing in stylized character development, aiming to appeal to both younger collectors and older animation enthusiasts. The Goofy card specifically utilized a bold, monochromatic color palette to denote its rare status, which helped distinguish it from common base-set characters. While the set received moderate attention upon release, it remains a niche curiosity, valued primarily by completionist collectors of character-themed card series.
