Where it came from
Priya Mangal was released as part of the initial launch of the Hyperia City trading card game, a tabletop project conceptualized by independent designers to explore a sprawling, retro-futuristic urban setting. As a common-tier character card, the item was designed to serve as a foundational entry for players building out their deck’s roster of local inhabitants. The card was intended to establish the grounded, neighborhood-focused atmosphere that distinguishes the Hyperia City setting from more traditional high-fantasy or space-opera genre competitors.
The character design for Priya Mangal was commissioned to illustrate the everyday resilience of the city’s residents. By utilizing a minimalist art style with muted, industrial color palettes, the illustrator aimed to emphasize the narrative utility of the character over theatrical flair. Upon its release, the card was received primarily as a reliable utility piece for newer players, praised by the community for its clear design language and its contribution to the immersive world-building of the wider Hyperia City collection.
