Pushing Boundaries

Pushing Boundaries was released as part of the Hyperia City expansion, an influential set designed to bridge the gap between traditional resource management and the aggressive board-control mechanics that defined the game's competitive era. Developed by the core creative team at the height of the expansion's development cycle, the card was intended to provide players with a versatile tool to disrupt opponent setups, reflecting the high-stakes, neon-drenched aesthetic of the Hyperia urban environment.

The illustrative work for this card focuses on the distinct cyberpunk visual identity of the set, utilizing a sharp, high-contrast palette to depict a character breaking through a digital firewall. It was received by the player base as a staple for mid-tier decks, praised for its efficient cost-to-effect ratio, which allowed it to remain relevant in casual play even as the broader meta-game shifted toward more complex interaction loops.
