Where it came from
Woody, card number nine in the Wilds Unknown set, was released as a special rarity character card during the initial expansion of the series. The set was conceived to blend traditional fantasy motifs with a rustic, wilderness-inspired aesthetic, marking a departure from the more urban or high-tech themes prevalent in competing trading card games of the period.
The character design reflects the series' focus on tactile, organic textures, utilizing muted earth tones and a hand-drawn illustration style that suggests a classic storybook quality. Upon its release, the card was well-received by collectors who praised the intricate foil etching used to define the character's wood-grain features, which set a new standard for the set's production quality.
