Where it came from
Abeyance was originally released as a rare card in the 1997 Weatherlight expansion for Magic: The Gathering, designed to introduce a powerful white-aligned control mechanic that restricted opponent actions during the caster's turn. It quickly became a staple in competitive play for its versatility, allowing players to disrupt combo decks or ensure their own offensive maneuvers remained unchecked.
The 1998 World Championship Deck series featured exact, non-randomized replicas of decks used by the top players at the previous year's tournament. The card included in this specific set bears a unique gold-border and a specialized back, serving as a functional memento of Brian Hacker's top-tier performance where he utilized the card to navigate the high-stakes meta of the late nineties.
